***Bud Status 4/26/2018***

Things are waking up here around the farm!  We took a few pictures this evening of some of our grape varieties.  The Concords seem to be ahead of the pack with 100% of the plants swelling and most breaking today.  The Vidals are just starting to swell at the nodes.

Half of our  Chardonel plants are breaking open today.  The Chambourcin plants are taking off strong with many buds breaking open.  90% of the Chambourcin have started to break.  We are so excited to see how both grow this year.  We will finally be trellising them at some point this spring.

Spring is in the Air

What's that smell?  Its the mushroom mulch being spread on the Concord rows by Zach!  We received a huge load of mushroom mulch from a local business about a week ago.  Today conditions were perfect outside to spread it.  It took about 5 hours of time to spread the mulch on 11 rows.

We have used about half of the mulch pile placed ever so inconveniently along our driveway.

We used the David Brown to scoop the mulch and dump it into the spreader.  We used Jeff's old Ford to pull the spreader.

A big THANK YOU to Anja and Duff for letting us borrow their spreader again this year!

Asparagus Is Here!

Today we harvested the first few asparagus shoots from our patch.  In the spring of 2016, with the help of those at The Long Shot Farm, we planting 750 root stocks.  We are very excited to see the yield we will soon get!

Zach, Fiona, Toben, and Leif searched for the emerging asparagus this evening.
